Delayed Openings/School Closings

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS

A decision to close school for the day for emergencies related to weather and road conditions will be made before 6 a.m. and reported to the following stations:

WNYW - Ch. 5 TV
FIOS/Verizon - Ch. 501
News 12 Long Island - Ch. 12 TV
Internet: www.lbeach.org

Transportation to all private and parochial schools, both in and out of district, will be canceled on such days.

DELAYED OPENINGS

If it appears that road or weather conditions will be hazardous at the normal opening time of the school day, but are expected to improve, a delayed opening will be announced before 6 a.m. Delayed openings will postpone the opening of school by one (1) or two (2) hours; i.e., schools will open one (1) or two (2) hours after their normal starting times at the discretion of the Superintendent. A delayed school opening means bus schedules will be delayed by one (1) or two (2) hours. For example, if a child’s bus is scheduled to arrive at 8 a.m., the one (1) or two (2) hour delay will change the bus arrival time to 9 a.m. or 10 a.m.

When there is a delayed opening:
• All buses to private and parochial schools in the district will be delayed by one (1) or two (2) hours.
• All out-of-district transportation will be delayed by one (1) or two (2) hours.
• Morning Pre-K classes will be canceled.
• Listed radio and TV stations will announce the delay.

A delayed opening is subject to change to an emergency school closing if the weather or road conditions remain hazardous.

SNOW EMERGENCY MAKE-UP DAYS

If the district uses more than two days for snow emergencies during the 2017-2018 school year, the make-up days will be: (1) Friday, April 6, 2018; and (2) Thursday, April 5, 2018.
