Long Beach Middle School

Music Department

Music is a part of your everyday life. Whether you realize it or not, you are conditioned by its subtle influence. It can sway your emotions in many directions. TV commercials use music to influence you to buy products. Movies employ music as carefully as scriptwriters use dialogue. Whether on CD's, instruments, singing or the musical theatre - music surrounds you.

The middle school music program is a source of pride in the Long Beach community. We offer a very popular general music class and music computer lab. Music performing groups include 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Choruses, 6th Grade Band and 6th Grade Orchestra, 7th Grade Band, 8th Grade Band, 7th & 8th Grade Orchestra, Jazz Band, Vocal Workshop and Chamber Orchestra. Many of our music students compete successfully at the different NYSSMA festivals, including NYSSMA Majors. Many of our music students participate in All County and LISFA performing groups.

In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September and National Bullying Prevention Month in October, Long Beach Middle School School recently welcomed Sweethearts and Heroes, an organization dedicated to empowering students with tools to combat bullying and manage feelings of hopelessness. Through engaging assemblies for all grade levels, students learned practical strategies to support themselves and others. LBMS will continue to reinforce these important lessons and remind students that support is always available through our school counselors, social workers, and psychologists. No one is ever alone.
