At the December 10 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Gallagher began her report by introducing Long Beach Director of Technology and Innovation Keith Harvey who presented this month’s student showcase on Virtual Enterprise along with students from the program.

The students gave an in-depth overview of the Virtual Enterprise (VE) course which offers numerous advantages through project-based and collaborative learning. The program simulates a virtual business environment. Participation in VE allows students to gain practical, hands-on experience in running a business while engaging in company activities within a global network of student-run businesses in more than 40 countries through Virtual Enterprises International.

The program involves networking events, trade fairs and interactions with business professionals, providing students with valuable networking opportunities that can be beneficial for future career endeavors. Students attend virtual and in-person events and are responsible for creating a product, marketing the product and selling the product to other business students.

This year, the student’s virtual company is a Heralos App, a personalized AI trainer that trains individuals in multiple fields of exercise including various sports, weight training and cardiovascular options.

In addition to the student showcase, Long Beach Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Mike DeVito presented Health Insurance Options for Retirees.
