Long Beach High School was one of 15 schools that participated in this year’s Locust Valley Film Festival with over 250 entries. Only the best films in nine categories, Animation, Comedy, Commercial, Documentary, Drama, Horror, Music Video, PSA and Trailer, were screened. Long Beach students had nine of their films screened out of 68 films, and almost 15% of the films screened were by Long Beach students. To have your film screened is an honor that gives over 400 students the opportunity to watch each other’s films.

Long Beach students won the following awards at the Locust Valley Film Festival:

* First Place, Audience Choice Award: “Big Stewie” – Nanichi Arroyo-Hill, Lochlan Guenego, Dean Parenti, William Van Buren.
* Second Place, Best Comedy: “Big Stewie” – Nanichi Arroyo-Hill, Lochlan Guenego, Dean Parenti, William Van Buren.
* Second Place, Best Music Video: “Maybe Man” – Eile Guenego, Lochlan Guenego, Izzabell Lapi, Catherine Maguire, Vincent Napolitano, Lily Parlakian.
* An additional nine films were finalists and screened.

At the Long Island Media Arts Show, there were four blocks of film screenings, each about 30 minutes long. Since Long Beach had the most entries out of 12 schools, Long Beach had its own block of films. Long Beach had 17 films screened, with the next-closest district having only 12 films screened. Three film categories included nonfiction, narrative and alternative with a total of 64 films screened. Thirteen Long Beach students had films entered and six of those films were event finalists. Professional filmmakers evaluate each film and honor only three winners with an Excellence Award.

At the Five Towns Long Island Media Arts Show, Long Beach won:

* First Place, Excellence in Non-Fiction: “Robotics Club Spotlight” – Vincent Napolitano.
* An additional six films were finalists.
